Karl Hagenauer in Front of his Shop in the 50s
Carl Hagenauer founded Workshop Hagenauer in 1898. His sons Karl & Franz continued its legacy from 1928-1985. Together they created thousands of different designs with primary emphasis on decorative arts. Their creativity gave Workshop Hagenauer critical acclaim & soon became the most widely known Viennese workshop worldwide. Hagenauer designed their objects with minimalist style, streamlined angles and emphasis on fluid movement. In the early 1920s the Workshop Hagenauer started producing brass miniatures which became popular as gifts & souvenirs. Early figures had a brass or nickel-plated finish but in the 1940s a “Patination” technique was developed, giving objects a black finish with polished areas.
